Anastasiya Markovich

Anastasiya Markovich, born on October 23, 1979, in Brichany, Moldavian SSR, is a Ukrainian painter renowned for her surrealistic and symbolist works. Her dedication to her craft is evident in her upbringing in an artistic environment, with her father Viktor and brother Yuri both being painters, and her mother Irena a designer. Markovich pursued formal art education at the Chernivtsi Art School, graduating in 1994, and later expanded her studies through mentorships with artists like Dariusz Milinski and Tomasz Sętowski in Poland. Her artistic development was further enriched by study tours across Europe, including Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.
Markovich's oeuvre, characterized by its dreamlike quality, often explores themes of time, memory, and the metaphysical. Working primarily in oil on canvas and wood, her paintings exhibit meticulous attention to detail and a rich, symbolic language. Notable works include "The Past," "Traveller," and "Illusion of Reality," which exemplify her ability to intertwine the fantastical with the introspective. Her art has been featured in numerous exhibitions both within Ukraine and internationally, a testament to her international recognition. She has also contributed to various art publications. In 2007, her work was compiled in the art book "Світ Левкасу" ("The World of Levkas"), published by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine and the Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
Currently residing and working in Chernivtsi, Markovich continues to draw inspiration from the city's rich cultural tapestry, known for its contributions to literature, music, and the visual arts. Her paintings often reflect the region's historical and artistic heritage, blending traditional motifs with contemporary sensibilities. Through her evocative imagery and exploration of universal themes, Anastasiya Markovich has established herself as a significant figure in Ukrainian contemporary art.
