Tamara Adams

Tamara Adams, a self-taught painter and mixed media artist based in Portland, Oregon, has been on a vibrant, imaginative artistic journey for over thirty years. Her work, which has been exhibited in galleries and juried art events throughout the Pacific Northwest, is a testament to her dedication and passion. Inspired by her grandfather, a skilled oil painter and art teacher, Adams began experimenting with painting at a young age, encouraged to 'just keep at it.' She primarily works in acrylic on canvas, relying heavily on her imagination without models or reference books, allowing her to create deeply personal and evocative pieces.
Adams's art is characterized by its warm, whimsical portrayals of women, rich with exotic imagery and deep, resonant colors. Her figurative paintings celebrate the feminine spirit's beauty, mystery, and strength, often incorporating diverse skin tones and cultural motifs. While not of BIPOC heritage, Adams's work reflects a deep appreciation for diverse subject matter with a feminist leaning. It aims to honor the universal aspects of womanhood, making all women feel included and appreciated.
Beyond her figurative work, Adams explores themes of nature and spirituality, creating pieces featuring birds, animals, fish, sacred hearts, flowers, and even a kitchen line of fruits and vegetables. Her art, which has been featured in magazines, calendars, books, and posters, has also been a powerful tool for supporting social justice causes. Adams has donated images to organizations serving underrepresented communities, using her platform to make a difference. Although she has slowed her professional pace to focus on family life, Adams continues to create, finding joy in painting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and furry companions.
