Ray Troll

Ray Troll, an American artist and graphic designer, is celebrated for his one-of-a-kind fusion of science, humor, and pop culture. Hailing from Ketchikan, Alaska, Troll's art draws heavily from marine biology, paleontology, and the lush natural landscape of the Pacific Northwest. His distinct hand-drawn style, coupled with a playful sense of humor, has birthed a diverse portfolio. From intricate scientific illustrations to whimsical t-shirt designs, album covers, and fine art pieces, his work is a testament to his fascination with the ancient and the aquatic.

Troll studied at Bethany College in Kansas and later earned a Master of Fine Arts from Washington State University. His career took off after he moved to Alaska in the 1980s, where the abundant wildlife and vibrant fishing culture profoundly influenced his artistic vision. Over the years, he has collaborated closely with scientists, notably paleontologist Kirk Johnson, to create educational art that brings prehistoric life and natural history to the public in accessible, engaging ways. His art has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions across the United States, including at the Smithsonian and the Field Museum.

Beyond his visual work, Ray Troll is also a musician and member of the band The Ratfish Wranglers, merging his love of science with storytelling through music. His ability to bridge the gap between art and science has earned him a devoted following among educators, scientists, and art lovers alike. Whether he's drawing trilobites in vivid detail or composing quirky songs about evolution, Troll remains a passionate advocate for curiosity, conservation, and creativity.
