Michael Young

Michael Young, born in 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas, is an American artist renowned for his evocative paintings that capture the essence of American life. His dedication to his craft was evident from a young age, inspired by his father, Eugene, who nurtured his early interest in art. At seventeen, he enrolled in a two-year Commercial Art program in Salina, Kansas, which laid the foundation for his artistic journey. After graduation, he worked at an architectural illustration studio in Kansas City, Missouri, where he honed his skills in perspective and rendering. This experience ignited a passion for fine art, leading him to open a studio/gallery in Leavenworth, Kansas.

In 1978, seeking to deepen his understanding of the human form, Young moved to New York City. He studied at the Art Students League and the Salmagundi Club and took private anatomy lessons with renowned instructor Bill Weltman. These studies enriched his ability to confidently and precisely incorporate figures into his work. Young's paintings, characterized by their nostalgic themes and intricate detail, are particularly intriguing due to his unique blend of realism and romanticism. His works have been exhibited across the United States and are included in various private and corporate collections.

Among his notable achievements, Young was commissioned to create a mural for the Kansas State Capitol, commemorating the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. This work, a testament to his commitment to capturing pivotal moments in American history through art, has left a lasting impact. Currently residing in Kansas City, Kansas, Young continues to produce art that resonates with audiences, drawing from his rich experiences and deep appreciation for the American narrative.
