Lindy Norton

Lindy Norton, a British artist and illustrator, is known for her unique blend of fine art and commercial illustration. Her artistic journey began with a BA in Fine Art from Hull School of Art and Design and an MA in Printmaking from Chelsea School of Art. She further honed her skills with an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. Norton's work is deeply rooted in drawing, which she often transforms into paintings and printmaking, particularly drypoint etching and monoprint. Her pieces usually delve into atmospheric qualities and the interplay of light and shadow, aiming to evoke a sense of unease and ambiguity, often hinting at human presence or absence.

With a rich history of 17 years as a freelance illustrator in London, Norton has left her mark on a diverse range of projects. She has contributed to children's books, greeting cards, wrapping paper, and packaging, showcasing her versatility and adaptability. Her client list is equally impressive, featuring renowned names such as the World Wildlife Fund, Hamlyn, National Gallery Publications, Medici Society, Greenpeace, The Born Free Foundation, Boots, Marks & Spencer, and Random House. In addition to these, she has also undertaken private commissions, with TV medic Dr. Miriam Stoppard among her clients.

In recent years, Norton has focused more on her acceptable art practice, exhibiting her drypoint etchings in venues such as the Royal Academy in 2011. Her piece "Martin's Room" won first prize in a competition at the Ropewalk Gallery in Barton-upon-Humber, where she also conducts regular workshops. Norton continues to teach and inspire students, sharing her expertise in illustration and printmaking at institutions like the Feral Art School and Hull School of Art and Design.
