Christmas in July is the kind of silly holiday nobody realized they wanted until someone stared at a hot summer day and thought, “This could use more tinsel.” Instead of snow outside, the air conditioner works overtime while inflatable reindeer droop in the heat. Santa swaps his velvet suit for Bermuda shorts, sunglasses, and a bright Hawaiian shirt, then shows up in a golf cart covered in battery-powered lights. The result is a fun mix of seasons: candy canes next to lemonade, Christmas carols playing while lawn mowers buzz, and neighbors trying to decide if your rooftop snowman is a decoration or a sign you need help.

The food is just as mixed up. Cooking a roast turkey feels impossible when the kitchen is already boiling, so Christmas dinner moves outside and turns into a barbecue with big dreams. Hamburgers get sprigs of rosemary, watermelon is cut into stars, and someone always brings a bowl of potato salad with red and green peppers to make it 'festive.' Frozen hot chocolate replaces the usual hot drink, which sounds odd but makes sense after a few minutes in the July heat. For dessert, there might be gingerbread cookies going soft in the humidity, peppermint ice cream melting too fast to eat, and a fruitcake from December that now seems tough enough to use as a brick.

Even though it is a little ridiculous, Christmas in July has its own charm. You get all the sparkle, fun, and generosity of December without crowded airports, icy roads, or last-minute battery hunts. People swap small gifts, throw backyard parties, watch snowy movies while sitting in front of a fan, and pretend the fake snow on the windows does not look like shaving cream. For one day, summer feels a bit more magical, and Christmas is much more relaxed. It shows that holiday cheer does not need cold weather, a fireplace, or even perfect sense—just some lights, a cold drink, and the courage to wear a Santa hat with flip-flops.

The perfect gift for Christmas fans and ocean lovers, this traditional adult wooden jigsaw puzzle can be done time and again. Larry Jones

Larry Jones is a Baltimore-based artist whose work celebrates the warmth, charm, and enduring spirit of nostalgic Americana. He began his artistic career in the 1980s drawing storyboards for television commercials, an experience that honed his eye for composition, pacing, and visual storytelling. From those early professional beginnings, Jones went on to build a prolific creative career spanning decades, producing thousands of works across a remarkable range of styles and disciplines, including children’s illustration, advertising, editorial art, graphic design, and, more recently, digital painting.

Renowned for his richly detailed depictions of small-town life, scenic countryside settings, and heartwarming moments of everyday Americana, Jones creates images that feel both timeless and inviting. His art captures the romance of simpler times—main streets alive with activity, familiar neighborhoods bathed in warm light, and rural landscapes filled with comfort and memory. Drawing on his extensive background in commercial and illustrative art, he combines strong narrative instincts with a keen eye for detail, creating scenes that are not only visually engaging but also rich in character, atmosphere, and emotion.

Jones works from a small studio in his backyard, surrounded by much of the natural beauty that inspires his paintings. This close connection to the landscape and rhythms of everyday life gives his work an authenticity and warmth that resonate deeply with viewers. Whether portraying a bustling town square, a peaceful country road, or a slice of Americana remembered through imagination and experience, Larry Jones invites audiences into a world of nostalgia, craftsmanship, and storytelling, preserving the beauty of familiar places and cherished moments through his art.
