Laura Bell

Laura Bell, a New York-based visual artist, is a master of versatility, spanning her artistic expression across painting, mixed media, and collaborative assemblage. Her journey began at Douglass College and Rutgers University, where she studied under Fluxus artist Robert Watts's guidance and sculptor Ka Kwong Hui. These mentors instilled in her an appreciation for spontaneity, serendipity, and a deep understanding of form that extended beyond the ceramic studio. Bell furthered her education with graduate studies under painter Anne Tabachnick at Goddard College in Vermont. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in experimentation, often exploring the interplay between structure and chance.

Bell's work has been exhibited in various cities, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Berlin, and Provincetown. She has participated in art fairs such as Aqua Art Miami and Governors Island Art Fair. In 2020, she received the Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) award in painting from the Bronx Council on the Arts. Bell has also been an artist-in-residence at the Millay Colony for the Arts.

Among her notable projects is "The Corpses," a long-term collaborative collage and assemblage endeavor with poet Ian Ganassi, which has been exhibited in venues such as the Jennifer Baahng Gallery in New York City and Seoul, South Korea. Her "Pandemic Cemetery" drawings and "Books" series are particularly noteworthy, as they showcase her engagement with themes of memory, transformation, and the passage of time. Bell's work continues to invite viewers into a dialogue between the ephemeral and the enduring, exploring these themes in a unique and thought-provoking way.
