Markets in Mexico revolve around food, family, and community, making them special places to visit. Whether you are looking for souvenirs, clay pots, really fresh fruit and vegetables, tacos for the evening meal, or beautifully crafted paintings, silverware, or china, you will be sure to find everything you need.

Each market has its own character, centered around the small town or neighborhood in the city where it is located.  Mexico City's largest traditional food market, Mercado de la Merced, is full of little blocks devoted to groups of sellers with similar wares. You can wander the districts devoted to everything from nopales, sometimes stacked five feet high, to pyramids of limes and columns of banana leaves. Tacos, tortillas, chicharrón - all have their representative sections. If you are feeling really adventurous, you can sample the maguey worms or the ant eggs.

This little coastal market on the church square is centered around the fresh produce grown in the fields nearby, and we're sure that just by turning the corner, you would also find a wonderful selection of mariscos from the small fishing boat in the distance.

Raul Del Rio

Raul Del Rio is a contemporary artist whose work celebrates movement, memory, and cultural identity. His vibrant abstract compositions are brought to life through bold color choices and gestural brushwork, and his pulse is with energy and emotion. These paintings often suggest landscapes, rhythms, or fragments of lived experience, blurring the line between personal narrative and collective memory.

Born in Mexico City, Del Rio's artistic journey took him to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Los Angeles, where he developed a style that bridges Latin American visual traditions with contemporary abstraction. His work, which is exhibited in galleries across the U.S., Mexico, and Spain, has garnered attention for its dynamic surfaces and intuitive sense of form. In 2021, he was awarded a residency at the Oaxaca Contemporary Arts Center, further solidifying his international recognition.

Now based in Los Angeles, Del Rio continues to paint in a studio surrounded by music, found objects, and books on art history and poetry. He sees painting as a dynamic dialogue—between cultures, between past and present, and between emotion and structure. With each canvas, he actively invites viewers into a space of movement and reflection, where color and form speak beyond language, engaging them in a unique artistic experience.
