The town of Salisbury, in southern England, has one of the UK's finest cathedrals and the one with the highest spire, rising 404 feet.

Cats were recorded at Salisbury Cathedral as far back as 1782. A piece in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal told the tale of a cat who made its way back to the Cathedral after its lady owner moved to Oxford. Kitty decided he preferred the life in Salisbury and made his way back over 60 miles.

In recent times, one of the more famous cats was a friendly black kitty named Wolfie (after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). He came as a kitten with the lady appointed Dean, and he loved to wander the area around the Cathedral.

Although fed by the Dean, he quickly befriended the workmen responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the Cathedral, especially the glaziers accountable for taking care of the beautiful rose window. He would follow them up ladders and scaffolding and hang out with them at lunch and break times, looking for cat treats.

Wolfie gave pleasure to the cathedral staff and visitors for over 16 years but died after a short illness in November 2011. However, his memory remained on souvenirs such as fridge magnets bearing his likeness and sold in the cathedral shop.

This beautiful image is a homage to Church and Cathedral cats everywhere.
