Adolphe Philippe Millot

Adolphe Philippe Millot was a distinguished French illustrator, lithographer, and natural historian best known for his meticulous and richly detailed scientific illustrations. Born in 1857 in Paris, Millot studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and quickly established himself as an accomplished artist. His precision and artistic flair led him to work for the *Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle*, where he became the senior illustrator. His work seamlessly blended scientific accuracy with artistic elegance, making him one of the most admired natural history illustrators of his time.

Millot's most iconic contributions were his illustrations for Le Petit Larousse Illustré, a widely used French dictionary and encyclopedia. His intricate plates covered various subjects, from zoology and botany to geology and entomology. These illustrations were educational and visually compelling, characterized by careful composition and vibrant color. Millot had a unique ability to capture the natural world's complexity with clarity and aesthetic appeal, creating illustrations that were not just informative but also beautiful.

In addition to his illustration work, Millot was a respected painter and member of the Société des Artistes Français. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and received numerous accolades. Millot's legacy endures through the enduring popularity of his natural history illustrations. His work, known for its beauty and scientific value, continues to be admired and reproduced, remaining a vital reference in scientific and artistic communities long after his passing in 1921.
