Chameleons change color in a fascinating and complicated process. They don't really change to match their surroundings. Each chameleon has a group of colors and patterns available to display. They don't look at what they are sitting on and deliberately try to match it. Just as well for this fine fellow, as he would have difficulty conforming to the colorful background behind him!

The artist has painted our friendly little guy with a fascinating, flower-like eye, but in reality, each eye has a scaly lid shaped like a cone, with only a small, round opening in the middle for the pupil. They can rotate and focus their eyes separately to look at two different objects simultaneously. This gives them a full 360-degree view of their body.

They don't move around very fast, so they use their long sticky tongue to catch the insects they eat. It darts out of their mouth very quickly with a sticky tip on the end, forming a suction cup to snag prey items they would otherwise never be able to catch.
