Jim Hansel

Jim Hansel, a renowned American artist, is celebrated for his captivating depictions of wildlife, nature, and Americana. Born in 1960 in Chaska, Minnesota, Hansel began painting at 15 and pursued his passion by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in commercial art from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1985. His work is distinguished by its vibrant colors that seem to leap off the canvas, intricate details that draw the viewer in, and a profound appreciation for the natural world. These elements make his art not just a visual treat but a captivating experience, making him one of North America's most collected artists.

At the age of 12, Jim Hansel was diagnosed with Stargardt's disease, a degenerative eye condition that left him legally blind. He developed innovative techniques to continue his art instead of letting this obstacle hinder his passion. He meticulously crafted his paintings using magnifiers, low-vision devices, and photography, working just inches from the canvas. His determination and adaptability, spending up to four months on a single piece to ensure each detail aligns with his vivid mental imagery, have allowed him to overcome his visual limitations. His story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, inspiring many.

Since releasing his first limited edition print in 1987, Jim Hansel has produced over 200 editions, many of which have sold out. His artwork, featured in various formats such as puzzles, calendars, and home décor, has extended his reach to a broader audience. Through his paintings, Jim Hansel shares his unique perspective, inviting viewers to experience the beauty and serenity of the world as he envisions it. His art has a calming effect, offering a peaceful escape from the chaos of everyday life.
