Once Halloween has passed, many of us turn our attention to Christmas and the idea of a Christmas Tree.

But if you are a cat parent, that idea can be fraught with anxiety.

Many cat lovers have a tough choice between a beautiful pine-smelling real tree and investing in a more sustainable but perhaps less fun fake one.

According to the National Christmas Tree Association, Americans buy over 30 million real trees annually for the holiday. If you're one of the 46.5 million cat parents,* you're likely aware of the dilemma of having the two together in the same house.

But why are cats drawn to Christmas trees? Any new item that appears in a feline's familiar territory is fascinating to them, plus the tree has attractive outdoor smells and bark that can help sharpen their claws. The shiny ornaments look like the perfect toys to roll around the floor, and accessible branches are an opportunity to play and explore. The mere fact it's something new is enough to stir curiosity in the most indifferent feline.

Within every cat is an inner kitten, and a tree is irresistible.

Many cat people choose an artificial tree to try and avoid most of the issues, as with the scent, a real tree is more attractive. You can also try putting tin foil around the bottom of a real tree as a tree skirt or putting orange peels and dried citrus decorations as a deterrent, as most cats dislike the smell of oranges.

Or maybe forgo the tree altogether and just get a puzzle with cats studiously ignoring the tree ;)

With their colorful Christmas Hats, these felines will surely be a hit with Cat Lovers and Cat Parents alike.
