Here is a beautiful painting inspired by a wonderful British folk song from 1962 -

How many kinds of sweet flowers grow In an English country garden?
We'll tell you now of some that we know and those we miss you'll surely pardon.
Daffodils, heart's ease and flox, meadowsweet and lady smocks, gentian, lupine, and tall hollyhocks
Roses, foxgloves, snowdrops, blue forget-me-nots in an English country garden

How many insects come here and go In an English country garden?
We'll tell you now of some that we know and those we miss you'll surely pardon
Fireflies, moths, gnats and bees, spiders climbing in the trees, butterflies drift in the gentle breeze
There are snakes, ants that sting, and other creeping things In an English country garden

How many songbirds fly to and fro, in an English country garden?
We'll tell you now of some that we know and those we miss you'll surely pardon
Bobolink, cuckoo and quail Tanager and cardinal Bluebird, lark, thrush, and nightingale
There is joy in the spring, when the birds begin to sing, in an English country garden

Originally recorded by Jimmie Lee, but then made popular again by Rolf Harris and Nana Mouskouri, the song seems to fit perfectly with this lovely image of a British garden in summer. Painted by the popular British artist Hilary Jones. Hilary was a practicing optometrist for many years, but now that she is retired she spends hours painting her two favorite subjects, colorful English flower gardens and cats. This lovely scene perfectly illustrates her style, and we are thrilled that she gave it to us, as we think it makes a beautiful wooden jigsaw puzzle.

The perfect gift for wooden jigsaw puzzlers and flower and bird lovers, this traditional adult wooden jigsaw puzzle can be done time and again. Our wooden jigsaw puzzle artists have included many bird and butterfly-shaped whimsy wooden jigsaw puzzle pieces that match the subject of the image, and we have integrated them in ways that will delight and surprise you as you put the wooden jigsaw puzzle together.

Hilary Jones

Hilary Jones, a self-taught British artist based in Molesey, United Kingdom, has a unique artistic journey that is as vibrant and diverse as her work. Her art spans watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, and resin. Despite being accepted to Hornsea Art College for an arts degree, familial expectations led her to train as a dispensing optician. However, her connection to art remained strong, as she painted scenery for amateur dramatics and created backdrops for local theater productions. It wasn't until retirement that she fully embraced her passion for painting, discovering a renewed creative energy that quickly garnered attention.
Jones's artistic style is characterized by its bold use of color and exploration of various media. Her work often reflects a deep appreciation for nature and the world around her, with subjects ranging from abstract compositions to detailed landscapes. She enjoys experimenting with different materials, sometimes incorporating resin to add depth and texture to her pieces. Her commitment to evolving her craft is evident in the variety and dynamism of her portfolio, which includes vibrant watercolors, rich oils, bold acrylics, soft pastels, and unique resin pieces.
Active in the local art community, Jones is a member of the Molesey Art Society and the Oxshott Art and Crafts Society. Her work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, and she was a finalist for the prestigious Surrey Artists Open Studios Artist of the Year award in 2021. In addition to her art, she also handcrafts her own frames, adding a personal touch to each piece. Through her unwavering dedication and passion, Hilary Jones has made a significant mark on the contemporary British art scene, establishing herself as a notable figure.
